James C. Christenson
The beneficent, benevolent angels of God
The beneficent, benevolent angels of God
never stop watching us
from heaven above
They walk amongst us
and watch over us,
these beneficent, benevolent
angels of God
Some call them the watchers in the wood
or the discarded from heaven
But really,
they are
the beneficent, benevolent
angels of God
who never stop watching us
from heaven above
With myriads of eyes
and thousands upon thousands
of wings
These sentient beings
record us from beginning to end
They never stop writing or talking
about us, even though
they are the most ancient
and immortal of beings.
We fascinate them with our souls
made of flesh which corrupts
and worships pleasure
yet loves, and dies
and we never seem to be sure
of where we come from
or where we are going
except that we are made of dust
But much more than that, much more that
For soon we will join those thousands
and thousands of wings
with their myriads of eyes
and their keeping track of things
Eventually we will ascend to take our place
among those myriads of eyes
and those myriads of wings
and one day,
we too
will watch with amazement and wonder
at the progress of these most interesting
human of beings.
